Killarney Golf and Fishing Club
Located 15 minutes from Holiday Inn Killarney
Killarney Golf and Fishing Club is known as one of the most exquisite golfing clubs in Ireland. The club hosted the Irish open twice, first in 2010 and then again in 2011 proving themselves as a world class facility. Golfing stars such as Padraig Harrington have often used this course to practice their swing before large international golf tournaments. The club offers three world renowned golf courses, Mahony’s Point Course, Lackabane Golf Course and Killeen Golf Course.
Mahony’s Point Golf Course
Mahony’s point is considered to be the golf course suited to most golfers ability. The course is suitable for a wide variety of skill levels from the novice to the expert. Mahony’s point is the shortest course at the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club with only 6,800 yards. This lakeside course is known for its spectacular views and its famous 18th hole described by Gene Sarazen as "one of the most memorable holes in the world". The course has well positioned bunkers and water hazards to ensure that you are faced with a good challenge.
Lackabane Golf Course
Lackabane opened for play in 1999 is a Parkland course providing an excellent golfing challenge with enough water hazards that add both beauty and danger in equal measure. The course provides a good test of the long hitter with generous fairways and tough undulating greens. Lakes and streams feature throughout the course making it a welcoming challenge to any golfer.
Killeen Golf Course
The jewel in the crown, re-opened in 2006 offering spectacular lakeside scenery and challenging golf to long hitters. Water features and fast greens make the Killeen course difficult as they feature on nearly every hole. Nick Faldo, on winning the first of his two successive Irish Opens in 1991, was one of only three players to finish under par. That was before the changes in 2006 which provide an even tougher challenge. This is a challenging course with tight tree lined fairways and water features on nearly every hole. There are large, fast undulating greens, adding challenges in equal measure to the beauty of this course.
Good practice facilities are available at the club should you need to sharpen your game before you take on your choice of Course.
