Killarney Golf & Fishing Club
Is nestled amidst the splendour of the famous Killarney lakes with the spectacular backdrop of the Macgillycuddy Reeks, the highest mountain range in Ireland. This unique corner of the earth has been described as "Heavens Reflex" and the "Nearest Golf Club to Heaven!"
Mahony's Point the shortest of our three courses at 6,800 yards is a lakeside course with spectacular views including the famous, breathtaking 18th described by Gene Sarazen as "one of the most memorable holes in the world".
Lackabane, opened for play in 1999 is a Parkland course providing an excellent golfing challenge with enough water hazards that add both beauty and danger in equal measure.
Killeen, the jewel in the crown, re-opened in 2006 offering both spectacular lakeside scenery and also challenging golf to long hitters with water features on nearly every hole and fast greens. Nick Faldo, on winning the first of his two successive Irish Opens in 1991, was one of only three players to finish under par. That was before the changes in 2006 which will provide an even tougher challenge.
Good practice facilities are available at the club should you need to sharpen your game before you take on your choice of Course.
Mahony's Point - this would be considered to be the course most suited to all levels of golfer. It is the shortest of the three courses with wide fairways and large flat greens. However well positioned bunkers and water hazards ensure that there is enough danger to spoil a good round.
Lackabane - this provides a good test of the long hitter with generous fairways and tough undulating greens. Lakes and streams feature throughout the course.
Killeen - this is a challenging course with tight tree lined fairways and water features on nearly every hole. There are large, fast undulating greens, adding challenge in equal measure to the beauty of this course.
Dooks Golf Club
Golf has been played in Dooks since 1889. It was introduced to the local aristocracy by the officers from the Royal Artillery attending compulsory training at the nearby Glenbeigh Artillery Range, and is one of the oldest golf links in Ireland, it is located approx 25 mins drive from The Holiday Inn Killarney.
The golf links is set out on one of the three stretches of sand dunes at the head of Dingle bay. In the immediate foreground are the sand dune peninsulas of Rossbeigh and Inch and just a few miles away the whitewashed houses of Cromane fishing village provide an eye catching distraction. South eastwards are the famed McGillycuddy's Reeks, to the Southwest are the lovely cooms and hills of Glenbeigh and across the bay to the north are the Slieve Mish and Dingle mountains. A truly magical location for a stunning golf course.
Dooks Golf Links is not as exposed as some Irish courses and features and amazing variety of gorse, heather and wild flowers, the "gentle" wind is never far away and the narrow genuine sandy fairways and well contoured greens offer you a real taste of traditional golf at its very best.
Ballybunion Golf Course
This has a spectacular location off the west coast of Ireland. Located on the north west coast of County Kerry, on a beautiful stretch of sand dunes overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, you'll find two wonderfully challenging and unique links golf courses at Ballybunion - the Old Course and the Cashen Course. This is the perfect place for your golf vacation in Ireland. Located approx 40 mins drive from The Holiday Inn Killarney.
The Old Course exudes a majestic feel that simply cannot be compared to any other course on earth. With beautifully contoured fairways that tumble down through a blanket of grassy dunes, it's no wonder these challenging holes have been consistently rated among the top courses in the world.
The Trent Jones Cashen Course, located along the sweeping, undisturbed shoreline, offers breathtaking views throughout. There is a wild look to the place. Long grass covers the dunes that pitch and roll throughout the course.
Whatever your choice, every hole, every hazard and every shot is defined by nature's infinite presence.
